A restaurateur offered 100-yen Molotov cocktails, but police were not amused

An Osaka restaurateur set out fake Molotov cocktails as a joke to lure customers, but they just attracted the local police.

Creative promotions are a great way to get attention for a restaurant, but not all attention is good attention, as one Osaka restaurateur recently found out when his clever “Molotov cocktail” promotion brought a bunch of police to his door.

According to Rocket News 24, a restaurant in Osaka caught the attention of police when images of the eatery’s storefront started circulating on Twitter, because there was a sign out front advertising Molotov cocktails for 100 yen.

When police arrived, they found that the restaurant owner had actually put out a plastic box filled with old Kirin bottles stuffed with rags, and the box was labeled, “Molotov Cocktails: One for 100 Yen.”

The bottles were actually empty, so nobody was arrested. The restaurant’s 20-year-old owner was embarrassed and said the Molotov cocktail special was just a joke. The police reportedly let him off with a warning, and he’ll presumably be more careful about his funny restaurant advertisements in the future.
